Prehistory of Pampanga : ウィキペディア英語版 | Prehistory of Pampanga
Pampanga is located in Central Luzon and has a total land area of 2,180.70 square kilometers. In the history of Pampanga, it is written that the children and grandchildren of Prinsipe Balagtas and Prinsesa Panginoan established the first towns of Pampanga. Prinsipe Balagtas came from the Kingdom of Madjapahit in Indonesia. Prinsesa Panginoan came from Brunei. It is said that they came to Pampanga starting as early as 300 B.C. At present, similarities in the Kapampangan and Indonesian language can be seen as a reflection of its history. ==The People of Pampanga==
Linguistic and archaeological studies show that the ancestors of the people of Pampanga, or “Kapampangan,” came to the Philippines from China via Taiwan. This happened as early as 300 to 400 A.D. and the Kapampangans have passed on this belief from generation to generation. On the other hand, oral tradition says that the early Kapampangans were from the Malays, when they went on an adventure from the Malay Peninsula and West Sumatra. This group of people belonged to the brown race, characterized by black hair, brownish eyes, medium height, and almost hairless bodies. They resided along Pampanga River (which was called Rio Grande de la Pampanga back then) and extended their settlement to the Lingayen Gulf in the North, Manila Bay down South, Sierra Madre mountain range in the East and in the West were the mountains of Zambales.〔http://rciasia.tripod.com/pangpang.html/〕 Furthermore, these Malays descendants brought their culture to Pampanga in terms of their industry, residence, clothing, and other aspects of their life. They introduced pottery, smelting, weaving, and making necklaces, bracelets, and other ornaments. In terms of their housing, the early Kapampangans settled on houses made of bamboo with roofs made of palm leaves. They also incorporated jewels of pearls and gold on their clothing, which used woven fabrics. Bolos, swords, spears and bows and arrows were also introduced as armaments. Before the Spanish period in the Philippines, it was China who the Kapampangans had a connection with, in terms of economy and culture. Many Kapampangans married Chinese immigrants, thus resulting to a number of Pampanga natives with family names such as Yap, Tan, Chua, etc. This also meant the blending of the Malays or the brown race with the yellow race. The Chinese also influenced the cooking and consuming of food of the Kapampangans, which included dishes like lumpia and pansit, as well as the use of appetizers. Language was also deeply affected by the Chinese occupation, although the early Pampango (their language) was of Austronesian origin and was once written in the same way as that of the Brahmi script of India.〔http://www.andropampanga.com/history.htm/〕
